Breathing and Laryngeal Functions: Addressing Inherent Weaknesses in Physiological Design
Mammals, by their very nature, require respiration for survival. It is also a well-known fact that sound production depends on a continuous airflow, similar to any wind instrument. However, it remains somewhat puzzling why, for professionals such as singers or teachers, breathing becomes a critical issue, particularly when vocal fold lesions are thought to arise from overuse and associated breathing difficulties.
In this workshop, I will analyse the physiology of breathing from a unique perspective, highlighting inherent weaknesses in its design. This analysis may clarify why concepts such as „support“ and other techniques aimed at improving breathing are both vital and controvertial.
In the practical segment of the workshop, I will share strategies for overcoming these intrinsic weaknesses.
